Life on Mars Finale Verdict and Info on Ashes to Ashes
Loved it. Both series, right up to the end.
If you don’t know what I am talking about (and therefore the great telly you are missing!) check out the BBC website, wikipedia or IMDB.
The last episode (ever!) was last night. It could have gone so bad, it could have been a travesty. I thought they were going to blow it but I think it closed just right.
Now it seems there will be a USA version (I’m thinking Starsky & Hutch and Kojak, could be good!) and a UK spin-off called Ashes to Ashes set in 1981 London.
Ashes to Ashes info
There are good and potential lousy aspects to the spin-off. I don’t want to put in any LoM spoilers so I will avoid speculation but here are my thoughts on what I have found out about Ashes …
Good stuff
- Gene, Ray and Chris are back
- I was born 1974 so 80’s is so much clearer in my memory, some good reminicing there
- Set in London, three northern coppers mixing it up with the soft southern nancies ;)
- A lot happened in 1981 - Charles and Di, Ronnie Raygun, Yorkshire Ripper, Space Shuttle, Bucks Fizz, Brixton Riots, Pope shot, …
- I didn’t want LoM to end so more has got to be good
- The car will be an original audi quatro, I can just hear Gene now; “Ray, fire up the Quatro” :)
Potentially Dodgy stuff
- The new character is a feisty female
- Gene? Romantic lead? Really? Gene?
- Set in London, why is London always seen as the center of the universe in UK series?
- It could spoil the whole thing, they will have to be very careful with the time travel vs coma stuff
- Please writers come up with an original way for Alex to travel to the past, or at least not rehash the radio/tv/test-card stuff too much
- I really hope they deal with the Sam Tyler character nicely even though the actor says he won’t be back at all.
I’m so looking forward to seeing the pilot, fingers and toes firmly crossed!
Links (careful, spoilers ahead)
And of course, I have to include this (which will probably make zero sense to my USA friends)
