Canada Trip Redux

Friday, February 9th, 2007

Flyzoom the bastards have cocked up our Canada trip plans by canceling the outbound flight.
BUT
Clare, being the absolute star she is, has managed to make an even cheaper and better trip out of the tattered mess of the original. With absolutely zero assistance from me I shamefully add.
We have to just hope they refund both [...]

Detox Diets Don’t Work

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

If you thought you could binge on pies and pints then drink vegetable juice for a couple of days to flush out your toxins then the BBC has some bad news for you (and the diet industry)
Can a short, sharp shock really change the levels of toxicity in your body in just a week?
After [...]

Cool Web Brainstorming Tool

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I have just been playing with a pretty cool online mindmap/brainstorming tool called bubbl.us. It’s pretty neat, easy and straightforward.
The only limitation seems to be a lack of facility for exporting the results outside of the site. I had to take a screendump. Export as OPML, PDF or Word would be very useful.
Here is [...]

Not Feeling the New UK Mac Adverts

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Hmmmm, I am not convinced by the new UK Apple Mac adverts. The guys who star in them, David Mitchell and Robert Webb from Peep Show are funny enough, but I don’t see why we need UK-specific ads. Justin Long and John Hodgman are Mac and PC as far as I am concerned, the UK [...]

Avatars now in comments

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I’m all for anything that makes comments more approachable, personal and friendly. It could work out a mistake or great, who knows, but I just installed MyAvatars, a Wordpress plugin that shows MyBlogLog’s avatars in your comments.
While it would be nice to see the faces of the people who comment (because chrisg.org commentors are all [...]

Hard is where the money is … unless

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

I was discussing a business idea with my dad today and I realised something quite important.
“Hard” is where the money is.
But nobody likes “hard”. They want “easy”.
Bill Gates wanted to put a computer on every desk running Microsoft software. He didn’t set out to create something compelling to venture capitalists. Steve Jobs lured [...]

Love letter to Indian food

Aagrah Curry, originally uploaded by chrisgarrett.

While I am talking about favourite restaurants, here is mine. This clean plate shows proof that this is my favourite restaurant, Aagrah.
If I had to choose a favourite food it would be Indian. While I can happily eat pasta, pizza, chinese, steak and any number of other foods the dish [...]

Nandos

Nandos story, originally uploaded by chrisgarrett.

Nandos is Amys favourite restaurant and the picture shows the story commonly painted on the walls. Here is the full text.
If you like spicy chicken Nandos is well worth a visit. I am relieved to see that a Nandos has open in Calgary so after we emigrate we won’t have [...]
