NAS on BTHomeHub - BT Almost Forgiven
I was tooling around with my BTHomeHub, trying to stop it allocating my ISP provided IP address to my MacBook using DHCP (stopping me seeing my other network devices) when I remembered the USB socket on the router. Plugging in one of my external hard disks gave me a very pleasant surprise - plug and play network storage. Nice one BT!
For the geekier readers, the drive is mounted as a SAMBA share on 192.168.1.253. Not sure if you can configure that but good enough for me right now.
Turns out there is a whole community of people hacking the homehub. Not interested in all that, would be just happy if it worked consistently. The new firmware allows DynDns. Might be useful but for now my cobbled solution works just fine, would rather not nuke my current config and risk not being able to work!
Update: It also works as a print server on the same IP!
