Love letter to Indian food

While I am talking about favourite restaurants, here is mine. This clean plate shows proof that this is my favourite restaurant, Aagrah.

If I had to choose a favourite food it would be Indian. While I can happily eat pasta, pizza, chinese, steak and any number of other foods the dish I look forward to eating most and see as an extra special treat is curry. The stuff you get from the supermarket is swill. From the takeaway you can get a nice curry but what is served in a proper restaurant is usually in another class altogether.

It’s not just the spices and flavours, I enjoy the whole experience. Indian restaurants, the good ones, have a special sort of atmosphere. When we go we share a few dishes so get to try different things or my particular favourite, go when it is buffet night and get to try even more.

Unlike many Indian restaurants the dishes are slightly different to what you might get from the takeaway. You don’t see bright red or orange tikka masala. You would think Tikka Masala being one of my favourite dishes it would put me off but no chance, I wouldn’t change a single thing. Shockingly their vegetarian dishes are as good or perhaps even better than those with meat. If you are ever in Yorkshire, England definitely try Aagrah. The food is excellent, their restaurants are spotless, the staff are great and it’s not expensive. Absolutely perfect. In fact if you do find yourself in the area, invite me along!

I have known people who look down on the sorts of places we go. It has to be posh. You have to know your wines. The waiters have to have rods up their asses. The chef has to be a day time tv star. Michelin has to have bestowed many stars. The appeal I guess is seeing and being seen while they hold out their pinky fingers sipping fizzy £500 per bottle wine. Bollocks to that, give me a great meal, fun time, polite staff and especially let me take my daughter along without people sticking their noses in the air. As you can see from the picture, I like to clean my plate with my naan bread, I don’t think I would feel comfortable doing that with any 6-star posh-nosh!
