Can’t we get off this SEO treadmill?
Why are people still spouting old worn out stale SEO advice? It’s like people read one wrong-headed article by some nitwit and decide they are a SEO expert. Yet again I read someone with more clue trying to argue with the clueless. Word to Roland Tanglao; good effort but don’t bother trying to correct him, save your breath, you are right about link exchanges not being worth the effort and blog posts are far better but there are many in the industry who make a living out of reciprocal link exchange request services and they don’t want to see the practice die.
People see their sites rank and think they have it sussed. Thing is it is easy to rank for phrases nobody wants. Just using correct on-page basics you can rank. Heck this blog ranks for loads of phrases nobody wants. A number one result on Google is not that impressive unless it is a phrase that brings in money/fame/cake/whatever. Better to grow your presence naturally and by creating value than trying to figure out “SEO tricks”.
Personally I delete any link exchanges as the spam they are.
My advice, as usual, create something worthwhile, let people know about it, become a valuable member of your online community. You don’t need to beg or swap links, they will naturally come to you if you create something link-worthy. People will “remark” if you make your stuff “remarkable”.
