Cushions? Why?
Clare just spent the last hour re-arranging the sofas, or rather the stuff that she puts on them. To join our ever-growing family of cushions she has some new ones that she is trying out in different arrangements.
We have two sofas but you can’t see them. They are perpetually covered by “stuff”. Cushions and “throws” mostly but also cats a lot of the time. Sometimes people are allowed to sit on them. Apparently it is not correct to call a blanket that you put on the sofa a blanket, it’s a “throw”. And also apparently it is not ok to “throw” it, these things must be placed.
After this hour of fussing over the seating arrangements she looked at me with that “I am going to ask you a question but there is no correct answer” look. She asked if I preferred the new arrangement to the old one. Fair question you might say. Apart from the fact I was doomed. I couldn’t tell any difference, nor could I recall exactly how it looked before to compare. Was she testing me? Had she been fussing over cushions but actually just making it look like she was moving them to catch me out?
I mumbled in a non-committal-but-very-interested way and I think I got away with it. Or maybe the soft-furnishing transgression was just lodged for future recall and punishment delivery.
What I don’t understand is what cushions are for and why do we need so many? We must have about 50, although I have a suspicion they breed. And throws. WTF? If you don’t like how your sofa looks get a new one! When you are not well a cushion is useful as a pillow and a throw is good for use as a blanket … but you could just bring down a pillow and blanket from your bed or just go to bed. The first thing I do when I sit down is move the cushions out of the way. For me they are just not comfortable.
So … cushions are there to look pretty but just end up getting in the way. Am I right or missing out on some wonderful secret?
I’m struggling to see the point, someone enlighten me?
Oh great, she has just re-arranged everything now and removed the throws. I hope I am not expected to have an opinion, it’s bound to be the wrong one.

Get your own sofa. Declare one of them to be your territory. All this nesting behavior might become dangerous and you will end up spending your time in the basement.
