Today we visited the village where Clare and I lived for the early part of our relationship and the church where we got married.

It’s strange going back there. I rarely think about the place but when we actually visit it is like we never left. In many ways it is far nicer than where we are currently. For a start it is out in the country side, cleaner air and our bedroom had a lake view surrounded by fields. The view from my window as I type this is deeply unpleasant in comparison.

We had to move though. At the time of living there we were both separately commuting daily stupid distances and we wanted to start a family. Neither of us had a decent income so the cost of two cars and living in a nice area wasn’t really compatible with trying to bring expenditure down to a manageable enough level to bring a baby into the world. Also with your first child it is a good idea to have grandparental assistance. As it worked out moving to this hell-pit of a town was probably literally a life saver and I will be forever grateful for that.

Perhaps as well as this being where we are now is a necessary step in the grander scheme of things. If you get too comfortable where you are then you have less motivation to move on.

Just lately I have been taking landscape photographs of the area around our home and have found more appreciation for the location.

Don’t faint, not enough to want to stay here indefinitely, of course.
