Trip day 2: Banff

This morning after a massive breakfast in Moxies we popped into downtown Calgary. Daft thing to get so excited about but I love the breakfasts in Canada. OK, yeah you can get pancakes and whatnot elsewhere but it never seems to compare.

Downtown I have a love-hate thing with. I am never particularly enamoured with the “grittier” aspects of cities. Tramps, hobos, winos, druggies, drunks, beggars .. I can live without them. I feel for the people, especially in these sub zero temperatures, but they make me nervous and uncomfortable. I can be nervous and uncomfortable without much provocation so I would rather not be while on holiday. Calgary is up there with my favourite downtowns though. I would much more happily walk around Calgary center than I would, say, Manchester in England. And there is much good in Calgary too.

The C Train is brilliant. Seems to run pretty much regularly, is free within the blocks I am interested in and is quick. We picked up a bunch of official winter olympics merchandise. We always like to buy one or two pieces of tat with the name of the place we visited on. This was pretty nice ski clothing tat. Lovely.

After our shopping trip it was the scenic drive to Banff where we will be for the next few days. If you have never seen the rockies then you are missing out bigstyle. Pictures do not do it justice so you will just have to put up with these below and trust me, Banff is out of this world.
