Winnipeg, the verdict
So the dust has settled, my desks are finally clear so now I have no excuse for not updating you with how our trip went.
I loved it.
No suprises, I love Canada and really wanted to like Manitoba, but I really did like the place and the people. All good so far.
Now the bad news. For now we are not moving. Too complicated to go into but much to my dissapointment we are staying in the UK for the time being.
Would we move to Winnipeg if we were moving to Canada? After considering all factors (everything from house prices to job opportunities), I don’t think so. While we could buy a house outright out of our equity, which is a very big incentive, there was just NOTHING (and believe me I looked) happening on the new media job market while Vancouver (which I really
really love) has a thriving web scene and beautiful scenery to boot.
Don’t get me wrong, Manitoba has some real nice bits
It’s just that the majority of it is so flat. I kept expecting to see a mountain .. or at least a hill.

And bloody hell is non-winnipeg bits rural?? I am too much of a city boy to think driving an hour to find a hospital that is A) Open (!) and B) Would see us (”Sorry the doctor (singular!) is on holiday“!) is ok (and yes, we needed a hospital unfortunately).
The skeeters were a problem, we like outdoors, poor Karen got bitten over 20 times in one day. Clare, Amy and I were a lot luckier in that regard.
What is with Winnipegs water? Smelt like it came right out of the river - yuk.
All that aside, I did love being there and hated that we had to come back. Will definately like to go back. Should probably go back in fact, I think out of the week we probably spent about 5 minutes with family and visiting family was meant to have been the whole point!
Talking of which, I did take lots of pictures of JP and Gels wedding (over a thousand) with my trusty 350d and think they came out ok but will not be uploading them, think it is only fair that the couple decide who sees their wedding pictures. The rest of you will have to make do with my holiday pics ;O)
